What guests say

Of the newest 350 reviews of Ranco Travel’s day with Tutankhamun’s tomb, read on 29 October 2026, 303 give five stars, and about half of them mention the guide. The low marks are about the day itself: eight hours or more on the road, a rest stop where the toilets cost money, a shopping stop, and extras sold on the day, such as a Nile boat ride for about EUR 10 or another tomb, that guests felt pushed to pay for so as not to wait in the heat. Check in the listing what your option includes, and take some small cash.

Longer, or with a balloon

If a day of 14 hours or more is too much, two-day tours stay overnight in Luxor: Nice Tours’ two days with a hotel, a balloon flight and a boat ride is $270 a person before entry fees, and its small-group day with a sunrise balloon $210 (checked October 2026). From farther south, a Luxor day from Marsa Alam is $140 in current promotion (usually $175).

Is it worth the drive?

Illustration. The last stretch of the drive comes down to the Nile, its fields and palms below the desert cliffs.

For most people on a Red Sea holiday, yes, once: it is the simplest way to see the valley without moving hotels, and the guide does the planning. If you want more than two hours in the valley, spend a night in Luxor instead. Is the Valley of the Kings worth visiting? weighs it up.
